The Scottish Soldier in the Fens: A Film
Wed, 12 Oct 2022 19:00
The story of the Scottish Prisoners of War in the 17th century and their work in the drainage of the Fens is told in this film, bringing to life 'real' characters involved in overseeing the building work of the drainage of the Hundred Foot River, based upon those found in Minute Books of the Company of Adventurers transcribed by Peter Daldorph.
The backbreaking, brutal conditions in which Scots, English and Dutch prisoners-of-war worked is clearly brought out in as their story unfolds. Endurance, weakness, strength of will and the need to go home shows in a powerful drama based on original records.
The film lasts 75 minutes, and the showing will include an introduction and Q&A session with its creator Peter Daldorph.
Tickets are £5 and can be purchased here: https://www.cromwellmuseum.org/events/the-scottish-soldier-in-the-fens-a-film

The Jam'd
Sat, 15 Oct 2022 19:30
The Jam'd are now regarded as the UK's best known and most popular tribute to the live performance and sound of The Jam, and are totally committed to giving an unforgettable, authentic performance with all the energy, passion and style of the Woking 3.
As full time touring professional musicians, and massive Jam fans, the band don't "try to be" or "pretend to be" The Jam, but rather put on a performance from the heart and soul, drawing on all their memories, experiences and love of what was the country's biggest band in their day.
Gigging up and down the UK at outdoor festivals, scooter rallies and some of the UK's top music venues & events! The show also includes the only replica of Rick Bucklers 'Great White' drum kit & features their own brass section!……You won't be disappointed!
Every effort is placed into reproducing the sound, arrangements and energy of a Jam gig. Those who saw The Jam live will remember the electricity, aggression, passion, and even fashion on stage, something not always prevalent in today's world, but to The Jam'd, it is a passion, a mission, and an honour to play for fans of "the best band in the f#@*ing world!"
BBC Radio 4 – The Jam'd can play any of the classic songs perfectly! They know what they're doing!

'All People One': The Levellers
Sat, 05 Nov 2022
375 years ago a remarkable meeting took place in St Mary's Church in Putney.
In November 1647 representatives of ordinary soldiers met their generals to discuss what sort of government the country should have in the aftermath of a devastating Civil War.
Some of these men – nicknamed Levellers by their opponents – proposed radical notions for the 1600s, including for the first time in British history the idea that all men should have the vote.
This display, staged for the 375th anniversary of the Putney Debates, gives an introduction to the story of the Levellers, their rise and fall, and their long term impact. It includes original pamphlets, engravings and objects from the Cromwell Museum's collections.
The display runs from 5 November 2022 until 2 April 2023 during normal museum opening hours. Admission is free of charge.
