Alzheimer’s Society, Huntingdon Branch
Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity for
people with dementia, their families and carers. Dementia is a term
used to describe various brain disorders that have in common a loss of
brain function that is usually progressive and eventually severe. The
most common are Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and dementia
with Lewy bodies. The number of people affected by dementia is
rising. There are more than 9000 people in Cambridgeshire living with
dementia and by 2021 that number will reach more than 13000. Whilst
there is not yet a cure for dementia, many of the symptoms that can
accompany dementia—such as anxiety—can be treated and Alzheimer’s
Society is always learning of new ways to make life more manageable
and enjoyable for people living with dementia.
Alzheimer’s
Society may be contacted on 01480 415235 or
01223 884 031 or call the helpline on 0845 3000336 or at
www.alzheimers.org.uk
Further information on these two charities will
follow soon.
